Snapshow
Flat Stanley 22 Jul 09
That was a pretty flat week wasn't it! Not the greatest conditions for the past week for us surfers. Some great warm, spring-like sunny days though. I am sure the kids on school holidays would have been lapping the warm weather up.
Highlight of the week for me was seeing Luke Stedman back on his board. Luke has been out due to injury for every event this year, so hopefully we see him back on tour for the next event at Trestles, California. The event starts on the 11th September. With Luke back in action we will have all four of our WCT Northern Beaches surfers competing for the remaining six events of this year. Kai Otton is our highest ranked surfer, currently sitting at 19th in the Top 44. Follow the boys movements here.
Check out: The snapshow to see Cam King, the stoked winner of the Aloha Surfboard giveaway. Cam got his new board last week and rode it for the first time today, as he had to wait for waves. He was ripping on it too! Will have shots up from that session at Whaley, next week.
In this week's snapshow you will also see some snaps of the most amazing sunset of the year so far, some epic winter sunrises and even a few shots of people actually surfing on small waves. I scattered a few pits from the past in too, to keep you amped for the next swell.
Portrait: This week meet Lilian Leiva. Lilian is a happy, outgoing, extremely friendly Brazilian girl who works at the Roxy store in Manly. Lilian bloody loves Australia and because of this she has been living and working here for the past few years. Lilian is most stoked when exploring our amazing country. Whether it be a surf trip or a 4WD adventure off the beaten track with her boyfriend and his mates, you will see a massive smile spread across her face at all times. I love seeing people visiting our incredible country and loving it as much as one of our own locals. Two weeks ago Lilian was on one of these fun trips away, visiting our snowy mountains with friends. It was here completely out of the blue, a healthy 27 year old girl suffered a stroke! Lilian now needs ridiculously expensive brain surgery to stabilise her condition. A website has been set-up to raise money for this legend of a girl and anyone who can help, please do. There will also be a fundraising event soon, I will keep you posted. Donate to Lilian here
If you get the chance surf tomorrow or Saturday, looks like the small waves we currently have are going to dry up completely for Sunday - Ouch!. Maybe it's time to hit Indo or another tropical destination. Escape the cold, get some decent waves and arrive back on the Northern Beaches for the next solid swell. I'm booking this weekend.
See you in the water.
Cheers,
AL
