Snapshow
Vast contrast 08 Dec 09
It's amazing sometimes how much the surf and weather changes over the course of one day. We can spend a day on long 9 footers, catching clean 1 footers in the sun. Then we can wake up the next day to gale force winds, chopped up seas with 8 foot sets slamming into our shores. The beaches go from being flat and ready for the summer crowds, to steep patches of sand littered with debris.
The first day of summer which was now a week ago, greeted us with these wild, stormy conditions. We were left with the usual Sydney options...bugger all, except for a few sneaky southern corners. I got some snaps of some waves in the snapshow. Check it.
Pipe Masters: The sunset comp is all wrapped up. Parko won, taking down Mick Fanning, Sunny Garcia and Dusty Payne in the final. (decent final!!!) Is this a sign of things to come in the Pipeline Masters? The waiting period begins tomorrow and soon an Aussie will be crowned the 2009 World Champ. I fly out Sunday night and can't wait to get in on all the North Shore action. Mainly the shuffleboard table. Keep your eye on everything Pipe comp related here.
Exhibition: Thanks so much to everyone who dropped in to Cafe 5 for my first solo exhibition, all 120 of you! Thanks to Pure Blonde for the beers, Hayden Cox @ Haydenshapes.com for the wine, Simon Hellmich for helping to hang all the images at the last minute, Willy for the food and Ben Salkeld at Mesurf.com.au for the photos of the night. See a full write up and more images from the night here.
Eddie would go: All signs are looking good for the event to get a start tomorrow. Conditions are currently out of control with massive sets closing out through Waimea Bay. Local Northern Beaches frother Tom Carroll broke his ankle out there this morning! Hectic. Check coastalwatch for all the latest details.
RVCA sale: Its all discontinued lines, samples, one offs, hard to finds from past seasons - no current stock - close out older items only! Great threads, sick brand. As if you're not going to check this out! At the new RVCA HQ, 11 Mitchell Rd, Brookvale. Check the flyer. |
Now for the surf forecast. Sorry people, I have no great news for you. Summer is here, pull out the fishy or the log and go get wet in the warm water. Everyone is doing it. Seriously.
Next update will be from the sometimes sunny, sometimes windy, usually incredible North Shore of Hawaii.
Have a great week.
Aloha,
AL
