Snapshow
Swell, Storms and Surftag 19 Feb 10
A fun week just passed with a lot happening on the Northern Beaches. There were waves all over the place, solid crowds and heaps and heaps of rain, which made for difficult but interesting shooting conditions.
Black and White works nicely when the colour is flat, bringing more mood through. I try to mix it up, get low, get high, get arty, turn some dials, pull some focus, and In the words of WCT tour surfer Chris Davidson "That's some high resolution angles you've got going on there." Well I hope you agree and enjoy the images in this weeks snapshow.
Portrait: This week meet Laura Andon. When not in a model shoot, casting, designing or teaching Laura will be in or close to the surf down in Cronulla where she lives. Laura is currently writing a book about surfing, which is due to launch in Spring. (I will give you a heads up on where to get a copy, when it goes to print.) Laura is pumped for a surf trip to the Maldives this year, already claiming it as her best surf trip with the best waves she has ever ridden. Laura says that guys in the surf are usually pretty cool, "they give you one wave and if you stuff it up, good luck getting another one haha!" Laura's sponsors Dragon Alliance (thanks Brad and Jane), Ocean and Earth and FCS keep her ripping. Laura says by not being a local on the Northern Beaches it helps her to appreciate the moment more on her visits here, rather than taking it for granted which she does sometimes at home in Cronulla.
Jim Beam Surftag: Once again this epic event went down last weekend at North Narra. Seriosuly, if you want to go and watch some very high performance surfing from the best in the business, then these are the events for you. The final day was action packed with some incredibly close scores coming through. In the end North Narra were too strong piling on 96.86 points to claim the $13000 first prize and defeat Avoca (93.85), North Steyne (85.63) and Lennox Ballina (65.51) in the final. See highlights from the event in the snapshow. Do not miss this next year.
Become a fan: Thousands of you haven't yet, thousands have. Want to get a little more interaction with the images and photogs from Blue Snapper? Become a fan of the Blue Snapper facebook page, see extra images which aren't on the website, tag your mates, blow some more time at work, comment on the photos, ask questions about waves and surfers. Sounds pretty great doesn't it! Actually it sounds incredible. |
Looks like there might be a few waves around over the next few days. Not all time, not even part-time really. But there will be some fun ones in the mix.
On Wednesday I shot a session with Dave Vlug, Tim Taplin and several other shredding surfers. These have been held onto for next week. You will like them. Wait patiently.
See you out and about people,
cheers,
AL
