Wednesday (coldest day in Sydney for a million years.) morning: Jack Frost was definitely at the door last night and in full effect this morning. Ice on the sand and on windscreens of cars in Mona Vale. I personally have never seen that before, only heard about it in places like France, where they get snow on the beach in the depths of their winter. Must excite all those who love taking off to the snow for the winter.

It's this time of the year that I love. We've had that awesome period of waves in May, where you'll get 3-4 good days per week, sometimes more. Then this period now through June and July where there are good swells every so often, then days of small to flat clean perfect conditions. One thing you have to do though is stay on the pulse. If you missed it yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 29th June) banks were lighting up all across the Northern Beaches. I was down sitting with Kai Otton having a coffee, watching some amazing waves roll through Dee Why with no board or wettie I was left to watch. Dayyan Neve tore the bag out of a few at Curl Curl even threading the eye of a needle on some too!

Any surfer worth a grain of sea salt is ready to brave the cold, don that wet steamer from the session the night before to secure a few clean little faces first thing in the morning. Gee I'm glad that Summery North East wind stuff is at least another 4 months away. Clean and pristine are the things that resonate with me and hopefully you too!

Portrait: This week meet Dayyan Neve and his dog Ambrosius. Dayyan is a dog training, coffee addicted, pro surfer who lives in Freshy. Ambrosius is an ugg boot loving show off, but well trained son of Dayyan and Kelly. I hit Dayyan with a few quick questions. He had this to say...

Explain your name?
My parents thought I was going to be a girl and planned to call me Diane. When I popped out with a set of wheels they had to think quick and went with Dayyan.

Your dog has some solid tricks is that all you do in your spare time?
Ambrosius has impressive tricks, I've spent no time teaching him, he knew them when he was born (natural.)

Are you punching above your weight?
I am definitely punching above my weight as are you Alex.

Future goals? WCT? WQS?
Goals are always the same, be the best I can be and have a good time getting there.

You spend quite a lot of time with Kai Otton, what's the attraction?
My options have been limited since Bemmy got a 9 to 5, so Ottz will have to do.

Best wave you've ever had?
The first year the super bank at the Goldie was there, a huge storm came through and Kirra was breaking on an outside bank. I got a big one and got real deep for a real long time. I thought no chance am I making this one... then it spat me out. There was this old drunk dude on the rocks who called himself Dilla. He was sinking some rough spirits and he reckoned it was better than the 'Long Bong Burleigh Barrel' that he got back in 63.' Turns out Dilla was Bemmy's Uncle and Bemmy said he is bald and short sighted just like him.

Morning Report: Waves 2ft, swell NE ,wind WNW 20-35 knots easing. Blowing like stink offshore which has cleaned up yesterdays wind swell nicely but will continue to erode the size, 2ft on open beaches , hit it early as the tides on the way out and there will be a few hollow ones on offer before swells ironed out, winds will ease up later,,check Coastalwatch swell forecast.
